Looking to explore God's creation down to the surface?
Below are links to videos from all of our lessons in each unit. Watch them to review at home and discuss what we have been learning about in class.

Unit 1: Scientific Method/States of Matter
  • Categorize states of matter just like we did and class. Don't forget the heating and cooling experiment.
  • Follow this link to review the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. Don't forget to share the new knowledge we gained about dry ice with your parents!
  • Check out this "rap" that helps us review the steps we learned and experimented with in class.

Unit 2: Plants
Lesson 1:
Parts of a Plant
We are learning all about the different functions of each part of a plant.

1. Follow this link for more information. Use the mouse to identify various functions.
Record information with your pencil.
2. Next, follow this link to get more information.
Underline matching information with your pen, and record new information with that same pen.
Travel through the inside of a plant. Hold on!

Lesson 2:
Germination
Watch and learn more about germination and each of the steps involved.
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3

Lesson 3:
Photosynthesis
Watch the process in action.
See more about how this process was uncovered.

Lesson 4:

Pollination and Fertilization

Use these information texts to learn more about pollination and fertilization.
Add appropriate text evidence to your notes.
Lesson 5:
Plant Similarities and Differences
Lesson 6:
Seed Dispersal: Leaving the parent plant
Check out these methods:
Unit 3: Cells
In our next unit, we will learn about the building blocks of all living things, cells. This will involve discussing and exploring characteristics of plants, animals, and humans in depth.

In our first lesson, the kids worked individually exploring through a lesson, predicting and answering questions, and watching clips that expanded their understanding. Then we came together as a class to discuss our findings and new knowledge.

Lesson 1 (Cell Introduction)
5 Basic Functions of Life
This is a fun, but educational clip that perfectly connects with our concept.
Inside An Animal Cell
Entering A Plant Cell
Parts of a Plant Cell
Review the parts of a plant and animal cell right now!

Lesson 2 (Organisms, Bacteria, & Viruses)
We used these clips to connect with group reading from our book earlier in the week.

Protist Kingdom
Gist about Protists
Bacteria Growth
Size of Cells (This site is REALLY cool!)
"Bacteria" the song...
*This was a fun follow-up to our reading, and led to a great discussion of bacteria in our daily life.

Endangered Species:
Head to National Geographic to find more resources for our classroom reading.

Lesson 5 (Ecosystems Exploration)

Use these websites to gather characteristics about the ecosystems on [[#|your]] organizer.
Ecosystem Descriptions
Full View of Each Ecosystem (This is SO cool!)
Ecosystems known as Biomes (This one is REALLY helpful.)
Biome Descriptions

Lesson 6 (Producers, Consumers, and Decomposers)
How has God created producers and consumers to survive in their ecosystems?
Decomposers

Lesson 7: Fighting Pollution
Text #3: National Geographic: Coastal Cleanup
Watch it multiples times to add to your understanding of "fighting pollution".
Text #4: Reducing Wasted Food Basics
